Paludrine & Avloclor Travel Pack is a combination of two antimalarials that is most commonly used to prevent malaria in India including Goa state. The pack comes neatly packaged on one week strips, marked up with the days of the week to help keep your dosage up to date.
This travel Pack contains two different medicines:
Avloclor (chloroquine) 250mg tabs – Adult dose is two tablets taken together each week on the same day each week
Paludrine (proguanil) Tablets 100mg – Adult dose is two tablets together, taken daily after food at the same time each day
Childrens doses should be calculated depending on weight. The combination should be started one week before travel, whilst at risk from malaria and for 4 weeks after return to the UK or last possible risk exposure.
Each Avloclor 250mg Tablet contains chloroquine phosphate 250mg equivalent to 155mg of chloroquine base. Each Pauldrine 100mg Tablet contains proguanil hydrochloride 100mg
Paludrine and Avloclor tablets are usually very well tolerated but most commonly may cause headaches, nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea, blurred vision, rash or mouth ulcers
No medicine is 100% effective against malaria. It is very important that you try to reduce the number of insect bites that you get in order to reduce your chances of catching malaria. Do not take Avloclor tablets if you have psoriasis or a family history of epilepsy. Do not take Paludrine tablets if you might be pregnant. Consult your pharmacist or doctor before purchasing this medicine if you suffer from other medical conditions or are taking any regular medicines. Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Read the instructions on the pack and the patient information leaflet before use
