KARMI FARM CLINIC
The clinic is based on Karmi Farm located in N E India snuggled in the foothills of the Himalaya. Close to the Sikkim border, the clinic caters for all the local subsistent farmers.
The nearest hospital is a 3-4 hour walk away and in most cases has little in the way of medical supplies or, sometimes, even medical staff.
Karmi Farm Clinic is run as a first stop clinic for these people. It frequently has to deal with accidents such as deep machete cuts, dead fall injuries, and other accidents relating to living off the land. In addition to accidents the clinic deals with everyday problems such as scabies, diarrhoea, conjunctivitis and other infections associated with basic living conditions and water shortages.
The clinic relies on volunteer medical professionals to keep it up and running. Visits can be from three weeks to six months and is always a very rewarding experience. The accommodation and food provided are excellent. We are currently looking for doctors willing to undertake a two week stay. Contact cathy@nomadtravel.co.uk if you are interested.
PROJECTS-
TRAINING SAROJ
Saroj is from one of the local villages and has helped out at the clinic for 3 years. He has been trained in First Aid, Wound Care and other general medical practices by the voluntary medical staff working at the clinic. He now speaks very good English and acts as an interpreteur for the voluntary staff. He is now paid to work full time at the clinic from all your kind donations.
Last year the funds we have saved from donations were used to sponsor Saroj to come to the UK and undertake some intense recognised medical training.

The Ladies Take A Trip to Darjeeling
The local government in Darjeeling recently encouraged women to take part in their sterilisation programme. To help the women around Karmi, we organised their transport and escorted them to and from Darjeeling following through with medical aftercare.
The Dentist Comes to Town
The clinic recently organised for a dentist from the local town to visit the clinic for a day. Around 70 people turned up to see the dentist. The clinic then organised transport and paid for those who needed treatment.
These are examples of some of the projects the Karmi Clinic is involved in.
WE THANK YOU ON BEHALF OF THE PEOPLE OF KOLBONG AND THE SURROUNDING AREAS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT WE HAVE RECEIVED FROM VOLUNTARY WORKERS AND DONATORS WHICH HAS ENABLED THIS CLINIC TO RUN FOR THE LAST SIX YEARS WHICH ALLOWS THESE PROJECTS AND DAY TO DAY CARE TO CONTINUE.
If you are interested in going to Karmi Farm as a guest please email cathygoodyer@fsmail.net for a brochure. The trekking is superb and shopping in Darjeeling fab. Web link: www.karmifarm.com
