Matt is our new sales assistant and is here to help you out with all your product queries. He is a keen hiker and camper and put these into practice when he went travelling in Norway spending several days camping in the Arctic Circle.

Melissa is the newest member of the team and has joined us as our new Clinic Assistant. Any questions about insect repellent and she’s sure to be able to give you plenty of advice and if you need to see one of our travel nurses she can book you in for an in depth travel health consultation.

Hey folks, my name is Cate and I am one of the travel nurses at Nomad Clinic in Russell Square. I am Irish and moved to London last year to undertake the Tropical Nursing Diploma at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Diseases. It was something that I was very keen to learn about after back packing around the world. I love the outdoors and spent all my free time in Ireland surfing, trekking and camping. I have trekked throughout Cuba as part of an organised charity trip which was amazing!! Working at Nomad means I get to integrate my passion for travel with work. I also have learnt a great deal of knowledge from Nomad as they are very focused on providing up-to the health advice for their customers and I feel provide a holistic service for their clients.

Russell Square festival tips
.

I'm Cate, one of the nurses who works for Nomad and I am really  too old for this malarkey, but I just have far too much fun to let a little thing like ‘age’ get in the way of SO much fun. Therefore to all those people who do remember the’ back ache’ and ‘toilet logistical nightmares’, I have a few hints and tips to have fun in comfort and style!

The luggage trolley is an essential item so you don’t have to do four round trips to the car when someone in a fluorescent vest is shouting at you to keep walking as your arms are pulled from their sockets!!

Next essential item is a waterproof tent, we all know the weather man lies and with our ‘four seasons in one day’ climate it is important to have a tent that is waterproof. A roll mat may seem slightly bulky to carry but ‘OMG’ they are so necessary! We now have in store our own Nomad ‘Travel self inflating mattresses’ which are less bulky and lighter to carry. Also we have a camping stool which again makes hanging around the camp site a lot more comfortable. Also a torch or lamp is fundamental tool to avoid those trip wires in the dark when heading out to the toilet. Also have a decent lock for your tent when away, not everyone is there for the festival vibe!!

And so we are now ready to party, but hold on, there are ten of us,  and some want to go to the toilet and yes, the boys can go where they like and the girls, (yet again in life), get a raw deal! There are queues for miles and the port-a-loos already stink, PHEW!! BLESS THE PERSON WHO CREATED THE SHEE-WEE!! Bendy, easy to use and no wet ankles!!  Freedom Yeah!! (Don’t forget the anti-bacterial hand gel for all these lovely germs that may be on your hands, especially before you have food and after the toilet!) Also sun protection cream and lip balm with sunscreen should come with you; as well we live in hope!!

So we all want to eat at different times and want different food. At festivals it can be ‘hit and miss’ with the grub but one thing for sure is that it is always expensive! Take a portable gas cooker, some ready meals and your own ‘spork’, (a fork and spoon in one) and you have just saved yourself a fortune. If you are the unlucky one who gets the ‘runs’ for whatever reason, ‘The Self Treatment Diarrhoea kit’(available from our clinics) is an invaluable tool that will end you torment and set you on your merry way. There are rehydration salts in the kit that are also great for hangovers!!

So we head out of the camp site for the music and craic. In our day packs we should have a poncho or a waterproof jacket that we can pull out and get on quickly for when those fun-stopping showers occur. ‘The North Face’ range has a fly weight hoodies that are really cool and yet really practical as they pack away into a small space no problem. Wellies, gum boots, mud boots; whatever you call them they are another essential item for the ‘Field of Fun’. A lot of festival goers now wear these and the funkier the better and we have a funky selection in store. Top tip: get a pair of hiking socks to wear in your wellies for comfort, as essentially you are going hiking for at least eight hours! As your granny told you, if your feet aren’t right then you’ll not be right!!

Well fun has been had and everyone is packing up! Not only on the horizon are exhausted, hung-over people but throughout the field you can see people wrestling with their pop-up- tents. They are fabulous as the start of the festival but hence come the end, they make people very frustrated and angry! Want to the hero of the camp site? Well when buying one of these tents in our store, we will show you how to put them down. Yes we know the magic secret and are happy to share it with our customers.

Well I hope these hints and tips help you embark on great times and enhance your festival experience!! Cheers folks!!
