Hello lovely people and welcome to the Manchester Nomads news page! It’s all go go go here at the Manchester Nomad’s store where the team are busy getting ready for the winter season.
Our vaccination clinic is buzzing with intrepid travellers going all over the world (to avoid this chilly UK winter) and we have had loads of new travel gear as well as more stock for our outlet store.
If you’re planning a trip in the coming months, or staying closer to home, we are bound to have something for you! Need a new coat? A backpack? Or want advice on what to take travelling? Come in and have a chat to the friendly staff who will help you with any questions.
Don’t miss our epic SALE on the top floor of the store with an abundance of men’s and women’s fleeces, coats, hats, gloves and all sorts of gadgets. There are some great brand names with up to 70% off so pop in and have a look before it all goes!
Also, stay on the lookout for upcoming events organised by Nomads. We recently had a successful Australia event with STA travel and hope to have many more talks with travel companies such as Raleigh challenge to give out advice and travel tips.
Meet the team:
Jonny. Jonny has just finished his first year as Nomad Manchester store manager and loved every second. He has live d in some of the most scenic places in the UK such as the Lake District, north Wales and in his Yorkshire born eyes Scarborough. Jonny enjoys travelling anywhere that either has mountains to climb, waves to surf or rivers to paddle, taking him to hotspots across the UK and Europe. He has just come back from Greece where he sailed a yacht from the south to the north of the country.
Dom. Dom is the last remaining original of the team he’s been here from the start; he just loves it too much to leave. He never misses a chance to get to the coast as he hates being landlocked. Dom’s favourite trip was travelling around Australia for a year catching some surf almost daily, he has also explored most of Europe.
Niall. Our newest member of the team! Nialls a volunteer youth and outdoor leader when he’s not in store. His most recent trip was to Ladakh in the Indian Himalayas where he spent 5 weeks working as part of a field research team studying botany, glaciology and ecology as well as carrying out research and climbing unclimbed 6000m peaks.
Richard. Has finally completed his degree and is still planning his overland trip. When he’s not planning he usually enjoys anything about the great outdoors whether its mountain biking or anything with two wheels or survival and bush craft Ray mears style.
Nick. Our token Cumbrian, Nick is in the middle of his Podiatry degree at the University of Salford. He usually works once or twice a week and if you want some footwear fitting... he’s your man
Sally: joined the Manchester Nomad team a few months ago. Sal is currently completing an MA in International Development at Manchester Uni and is always up for an adventure! After spending a year walking around beautiful New Zealand she is now pretty obsessed with hiking and tries to get out and about as much as possible to the Lakes, the Peak District, the Dales, Snowdonia and Scotland. She has travelled and volunteered widely in South-East Africa (to South Africa, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania and Uganda) as well as Cuba and across Western Europe. A trip to Nepal is next on the cards. She loves to talk anything travel so come along for a chat to share some funny stories!
Jon. Our only southern born member of staff hailing from leafy Hampshire. Jon has done alot of travelling around the world. He is also really hot on current affairs and regularly gives us updates on global politics. He’s currently in the middle of studying at university Manchester reading international relations.
Harry - currently at University in Cumbria doing outdoor education but he does pop back occasionally and does a few shifts because he miss’s us so much!!
Alys – Our new lead nurse - Salford born and bred. what she doesn’t know about travel health isn’t worth knowing. Alys is the proud owner of a VW van in which she has travelled extensively throughout Europe. She has also visited many different corners of the globe and can give you loads of handy tips.
All of the staff love to travel and have a vast array of experiences to share with you. With a passion for outdoor pursuits and adventure, the crew will be extremely helpful and committed in getting you kitted out for any trip, large or small, and it won’t blow your budget.

Who we've been supporting:
We have recently helped TBWA, an advertising company (based in Didsbury, Manchester). They are flying out to Kenya to shoot a commercial so over the last month we have helped vaccinate and provide anti-malarial for their whole production team.
In the coming weeks we are going to be vaccinating students from West Hill School, Stalybridge who are also going to Africa on a trip.
We are also regularly helping MAG, vaccinating their leaders who go out to help on projects in Africa.
