Didn't get lost in France - Timex Adventure Tech Digital Compass Watch

+ + + + -

I bought this Timex Digital Compass Watch to help me drive around France on a recent road trip over the Easter break. The face was large and clear and I found the digital compass to be very accurate, even when on the move in the car. And used on a walk around the countryside, with the guidance of a map, meant that I didn't get lost. Overall I thought that this was a great gadget that will get plenty of use on my travels. Sahara Raider Bag

My friend has a Sahara Raider Bag, and when I saw it I had to get myself one. It is big enough, yet compact, with lots of pockets. A small external pocket for eg passport would be useful. Reviewed by Andrew, Devon.

Vango Sigma 200 Tent - Small but sturdy

+ + + + -

The Sigma 200 Tent is a good sturdy compact tent that's perfect for hiking trips. It's not brilliantly well-made and ventilation could be better but it stood up well to a week long hiking expedition in West Africa. Reviewed by Ellie, Oxfordshire.

Packing made easy

+ + + + +

I love these cubes. I bought two of the big sized ones (full cube), and two medium ones (half cube). Together, all four fit perfectly into my suitcase. I can keep clothing separated from electrical cords (so many when you are travelling!), and it just makes the whole packing experience so much easier. By Belinda from Edinburgh

Brilliant piece of kit.

+ + + + +

What a fantastic product. Can be used as a day sack (there are hidden straps), or as a shoulder bag. This is certainly the item to buy. Have been using it around town and it looks really cool! Can't wait to use it on my travels. There is space for my journal, water bottle and all those other things that no respecting traveller would be without. Brilliant. by Jo from Dingwall

Everything but the bathroom sink

+ + + + +

I was delighted with this handy, lightweight and compact product. It has several clear plastic compartments for storing all my toiletries and make-up in one, easy to see, place. No more searching to the bottom of my rucksack for my toothbrush, it keeps even me in a tidy and ordered manner!!! By Gail from Creswell, Nr Worksop

A must have

+ + + + +

This is so easy and discreet to use, and is very effective. My worry was that it would leak or dribble but it doesn't! No more hovering over horrid toilets or exposing your backside to the world. I've even bought one for a friend who at first was a little taken aback and then really pleased. An excellent product that’s easy to carry around for that "nasty toilet" or no toilet scenario. A classic piece of kit

The North Face Base Camp Messenger Bag: It’s easy to be more than a bit suspicious about a product description which sings the praises of the latest product. This bag however is quite simply the best casual sack I've ever used. The same construction as their world-beating holdalls, it is of the highest quality. Good size, perfect for the city or the mountains. Durable isn’t the word: it's unbreakable! £50 I hear you say... a bit steep for a messenger bag?? Maybe - but with timeless styling and near-bombproof construction, I reckon I will still be using mine in 5 years time! Note to The North Face: Please make a daysack like this!! By Craig from Dundee

Handy little travel lock

+ + + + -

This lock came in handy for securing my rucksack in a bus to the seat (or overhead shelf - I heard of lots of bags that went missing from there) and also in hostels where they provided lockers but no locks. The only criticism is that the number pads often got 'stuck' and it took me ages to unlock it. The trick is to push the metal bit in as much as you can before turning the number pad, if that makes sense! By Eeva from London

What a cool bag

The must have bag

Sleeping bag liner

+ + + + -

These bags come in a range of colours which helped with encouraging my nine year old daughter to 'go with it' when I was ordering these. The flap for inserting a pillow (I guess) is pretty ineffectual, never used and not likely to be. The liners pack up well and simply get packed away in the hood of each down bag when stuffing into sacs. As is usual with this type of product, too much tossing and turning in the night meant that they could become twisted around the body, as my daughter puts it "you don't know where they are". Certainly though, with frost on the ground and plummeting night time temperatures, these liners did add a degree of cosiness to the night time slumber! By Julian from Sittingbourne

Hammock

+ + + + -

Hammock is very small and perfect to travel with, used it on the beach all the time and good material which dries quickly. Only disadvantage is that you will need some sort of rope to be able to get it up and it's not specified when you buy it. By Caroline from Mellieha

Drinking magic...

+ + + + -

This product is indispensible if travelling in countries with less than perfect hygiene or water supplies. Whenever we have had stomach trouble, the rehydration powder has always made sure we were not left weak and exhausted, and so we have been able to continue our trips with as little inconvenience as possible. One for the ladies too!

+ + + + +

I've just completed a half marathon walk in a pair of these and cannot rate them more highly as a good general walking shoe that'll go the distance. I have quite wide feet so find the women's Merrells a little too narrow for my feet. The men's version of this shoe was perfect! By Alida from Frome

The Berghaus Park It & Me - Inseperable this winter!

+ + + + +

What a Jacket! I have had the Park-It for a month now and I can tell it's going to be my best friend this winter. The quality and finish is great, the fabric is a good weight and provides plenty of warmth without feeling like the michellin man. On the down side, I did have to exchange my original order of Medium for a Small (the sizing is very generous as I swam around inside my normal medium size) but Nomad were great in helping. A slightly expensive jacket but the quality ensures the price ticket is worth it. Bring on the rest of winter now, I'm ready! By J. Finster - London

Berghaus 24/7 - but more like 9hrs & 5 days

+ + + + -

I definitely don't use this 24/7 (that would just be silly sleeping with it on) but I do use it to take to work so it's actually closer to 9/5. Large enough to fit my files, lunch and a book to read. It doesn't scream "backpacker" either with it's smart looks. The Mp3 player pouch is also a nice touch as I don't need to keep it in my pocket. By E.McGuire (Liverpool)

The Berghaus Park-It is well worth the money

A little pricey but worth every penny. It feels like summer inside the Berghaus Park-It coat. Who needs The North Face when Berghaus are this Awesome! By M. Dawes (Sheffield)

These Merrell shoes were made for walking...

+ + + + -

The Chameleon Wrap feel like a cross between a trail runner and a pair of trainers. Very comfy and the "bumper" on the front made my toes feel and BE very protected. The goretex lining kept my feet dry without getting too hot as the rain and puddles couldn't and didn't penetrate the outer skin. The sole is Merrell's Vibram Chameleon Sport Sole and this provided good grip on most outdoor terrain, but wasn't so great in the city. A few times on slided on wet tiles and metal drain covers. Other than that, these shoes were definitely made for walking and thats just what I'll do! By M. Hannant (London)
