Atovaquone/Proguanil 250/100mg

Atovaquone-Proguanil is a combination medication used to prevent malaria, particularly in high-risk regions such as Africa, South America, and Southern Asia.

Take one tablet daily, starting 1–2 days before entering a malaria-risk area. Continue taking it every day while in the risk zone and for 7 days after leaving.

Each film-coated tablet contains 250 mg atovaquone and 100 mg proguanil hydrochloride.

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and headaches. Some people may experience allergic reactions such as an itchy rash or facial swelling. Rarely, side effects may include tiredness, itching, dark urine, or jaundice.

• No medication offers 100% protection against malaria.
• Always combine tablets with mosquito bite prevention measures to reduce risk.
• Doxycycline 100mg capsules should not be taken by children under 12.
• Consult a pharmacist or doctor before taking this medication if you have other health conditions or are on regular medication.
• Keep out of reach of children.
• Read the patient information leaflet before use.

• If your travel involves short trips into and out of malaria areas lasting less than 2 weeks, take antimalarials for the entire period.
• For travel longer than 2 weeks outside risk zones, treat each entry into a malaria area as a separate course.
